After the junction, we stopped at the Racetrack for lunch and a walk on the playa where rocks have mysteriously moved across a dried lakebed. Unfortuately, last year some idiot walked on the lakebed after a rain and left footprints. The footprints will remain for years to come.

Lunch was quite warm in the direct sun and I will be investing in an awning this summer to provide quick shade when on the trail. Either an ARB or Eezi-awn will be making its way onto the rangie

We continued west and went down the Lippincott grade, a tight mountain pass with spectacular views. Flowers were blooming everywhere and it was beautiful. We found some bikers struggling to climb the grade, though this year was the 'easiest' I have seen it. The park service made some improvements and widened sections that used to need spotting to get by. At the bottom, we hit Saline Valley road and took a left away from the springs and started our ascent to Hunter Mountain.
