Friday was our longest driving day, almost 170 miles, with only about 2 miles paved. We ventured out from Gold Point to Ubehebe crater and then on to Teakettle Junction. Ubehebe crater was created by superheated water that blew out the ground many years ago spreading rock over a 6 mile radius. We watched some teenagers run down to the bottom in the manner of minutes, but the climb out would be a different story.

We left a teakettle at the junction that the kids decorated. The park service gathers them each year and who knows what they do with them.
