Death Valley 2014

Ella and I have been going to Death Valley for the past 3 years. A month ago, we bought an LR3 already built up for overlanding and wanted to get her dirty. The whole family came alng on this trip which required much more coordination and gear. After a hectic afternoon with work, we drove down to Big Pine and stayed at a quaint hotel called the Bristlecone Motel where we stayed three years ago. Beaver rolled in around 2am and we all met up for a hearty breakfast next door in the morning.

Then we headed out of Big Pine to Death Valley road and to Eureka Dunes for lunch. The kids had a wonderful time running around on the dunes. We were buzzed by two F18 jet fighters and saw a bomber who was flying really low. In fact, he was at the same height as I was hiking up the dunes. It was quite amazing to see.

After Eureka Dunes, we headed up and over the crater past Crankshaft junction, through Oriental Wash and into Gold Point. Gold Point was going to be busy this week so we set-up camp near the saloon to have our own firepit. The rest of the crew, Rob and his family, as well as Ola and his cousin, Ben, rolled in later that afternoon from Sacramento.
